Goldman Ismail Secures First Zantac Victory for GlaxoSmithKline

On May 23, 2024, Goldman Ismail secured a decisive victory for GlaxoSmithKline in the first of thousands of Zantac lawsuits to go to trial. Partners Tarek Ismail and Rami Fakhouri handled key witnesses for GSK at trial, and Tarek Ismail delivered both the opening and the closing arguments. After a four-hour deliberation, a Chicago jury reached a unanimous verdict, rejecting the plaintiff’s claims of negligence, negligent representation and strict-liability failure to warn. Despite finding that the plaintiff had used GSK’s Zantac, the jury found the company not liable under any legal theory.

A Goldman Ismail trial team (Tarek Ismail, Rami Fakhouri, and Annie Wilt) partnered with co-counsel (Will Sachse, Caroline Power, and Rachel Leary of Dechert LLP, along with Tom Sheehan of Shook Hardy & Bacon LLP) to secure the victory for GSK.
